North-east projection of the republic in wider surroundings of Broumov is a picturesque region, where human husbandry and diverse natural environment have been interacting for centuries, resulting in aesthetically and ecologically valuable landscape, which should be protected and maintained. It is well-known for its extensive sandstone rock cities and unique cultural heritage, which comprises especially religious and folk architecture.
Adršpašsko-teplické rocks and Broumovské walls, the first renowned for miscellaneous rock city and the latter for miraculous rock formations, are the most significant spots of wilderness in PLA. Scarce species of flora and fauna are connected to local inverse climate based on specific sandstone relief. By far, these two are not the only natural treasures: valuable and vulnerable species, variety of habitats and interesting formations of non-living nature can be found on hundreds of localities in PLA. A significance of certain localities led to declare them as small-scale especially protected areas and sites of Natura 2000.
